Industry And Education Working Together For The Next Generation
In mid-September Autograph Sales & Installations welcomed thirteen students from LAMDA (the London Academy Of Music And Dramatic Art), for a day of training & hands-on experience, at their premises in north London.
The students were all from year two of LAMDA’s ‘Stage Management And Technical Theatre’ course & were accompanied by tutor, Gareth Evans. Many of them had, like Autograph, spent much of the summer working at the London Olympics, but their visit to Autograph Sales & Installations was principally to gain an insight into digital audio mixing for theatre.
A range of DiGiCo consoles including an SD10, two SD8s, an SD9 and an SD11 were used, with Autograph’s Chris Austin and Giuseppe ‘Peppe’ Mallozzi conducting the training. After 6 hours of intensive training, the students later decamped to Autograph Sound Recording for a tour of the hire and studio facilities.
Autograph Sales & Installations’ General Manager, Debbie Lovelock commented, ‘Days like this are a great opportunity for us to share our knowledge and experience with young technicians. By demonstrating the latest technologies and giving the students access to equipment prominent in most West End theatres, we hope to help and encourage them to continue forwards with a career in theatre sound’.
‘We also really enjoy the feedback we we get from the students. For example, several of them remarked how beneficial it was to see how we build racks and prep real-world shows, as it helps them connect more directly with what they are being taught at LAMDA’.
As part of Autograph’s on-going support for the future generation, the company are proud to be a major sponsor of the Theatrecraft Beyond The Stage Careers Fair, taking place on November 30th at the Royal Opera House. This is an event specifically for anyone aged 17 to 25 looking for a non-performance career in theatre, and gives young people an opportunity to meet industry professionals, gain advice, access workshops and learn about the wide range of off-stage career options available.
