New Sound Systems For Leading West End Rehearsal Facility
Autograph Sales & Installations have recently completed a commission to design, package and install four identical audio systems at Glasshill Studios, a state-of-the-art dedicated theatrical rehearsal complex close to the heart of London’s Theatreland.
Following a full refurbishment in 2013, Glasshill Studios now features four expansive and flexible studio spaces plus three production offices, a green room and a welcoming reception area. All four studios feature wooden floors, mirrors, black out curtains, air-conditioning, three phase power and secure WiFi access. The spaces can be reconfigured to replicate specific stages in London theatres, even down to the dimensions of the access doors, so that production teams can be certain that large items will fit when they get to the final venue.
Such studio facilities often rely heavily on audio systems that provide fidelity and punch for a wide range of playback material and so Autograph’s Peppe Mallozzi recommended a pair of QSC’s compact, self-powered K12 full-range loudspeakers, supplemented with two matching QSC KSub subwoofers for each space.
It was vital that all the studio audio systems were compatible with every playback device and format they might encounter, so Autograph created a simple and flexible connection system based around an eight-channel Alesis Multimix 10 Bluetooth-enabled rack-mount mixer. The rack also features a CD player with MP3 capability, so all bases are covered in terms of connecting playback sources.
The building houses apartments above the rehearsal spaces so it was essential to minimise sound transference as much as possible. To this end Autograph commissioned specially-designed mounting hardware for the K12s which included rubber isolation joints to minimise vibration.
