Floating Earth, the location recording, production, post-production and recording company based in west London, have purchased a new DiGiCo SD9 digital mixing console from Autograph Sales & Installations. Supplied with two DiGiCo D-Racks and two Purple Boxes (to facilitate long-distance connection of the D-Racks to the control surface), amongst many other jobs the setup was used at the Queen’s Jubilee Concert this summer.
Established in 1987, Floating Earth are recognised for the outstanding quality of their work, recognition that has manifested itself via numerous international awards including two BAFTAs, two Grammys and an Oscar, plus other awards and nominations too numerous to list. Originally excelling in classical recordings, their work now encompasses all genres of music while their purpose-built premises house some of the finest post-production suites in the UK. In 2001 the company added its first mobile recording facility, of which the SD9 has more recently become an integral part.
Autograph Sales & Installations provided extensive pre-purchase training, demonstration and evaluation facilities which allowed Floating Earth to satisfy themselves as to the suitability of their prospective purchase. In particular Floating Earth needed to verify the ability of the DiGiCo Purple Boxes, which convert MADI or CAT5 signals into optical transmission for fibre-optic cable capable of very long distance transmission. The success of this process subsequently led to the DiGiCo equipment being used by Floating Earth to provide the broadcast mix for the Queen’s Jubilee Concert, which attracted around 17 million viewers in the UK alone and a global audience of billions.
